Skin Health

Our skin is our biggest organ and protects our insides from the outside world.  It has an important job and here are some tips to help keep your skin healthy for a long time.

  1. Wear Sunscreen.  A simple ask but such a huge help to keep our skin healthy.  Consider sunscreens that have a healthier list of ingredients like Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide.  Sunscreen decreases risk of melanoma which is the most deadly form of skin cancer.  Staying out of the sun as much as possible or wearing protective headgear and clothing will also decrease the aging of our skin.
  2. Skin brushing before you shower. This is a great habit to get into as it will help increase the toxin release from your skin.  Ideally skin brush before you get in a dry sauna to help get rid of heavy metals through your skin.  This will also keep your skin softer and healthier.
  3. Omega 3 oils like DHA and EPA are great for the skin. Our skin has a layer of fat just under the surface of our skin that helps to hold in moisture and helps with the integrity of our skin.  Omega 3 fats can help with eczema, dry skin,  and are also good for the brain, heart and joints.   Advanced Omega 3 Mini is our Omega supplement which would be very beneficial for you in many ways
  4. Collagen is a significant part of our body. It’s in our hair, nails, bones and skin as well as other connective tissue in our body.  A lot of people take collagen powder which could help build collagen in our bodies but it doesn’t always absorb well from our gut to the bloodstream.  Regenesis is a product that helps our bodies to make collagen naturally.  It absorbs well and will make a positive difference in the strength of your bones, help decrease the splitting of your nails and breakage of your hair as well as decrease wrinkles in your skin by increasing the collagen that we have lost in our skin.
  5. Vitamin C. This vitamin is a very important ingredient in the production of collagen.  Vitamin C has many other important jobs in our body like decreasing histamine, helping the immune system, supporting the adrenals and their production of hormones and helps with the integrity of our blood vessels.   C + Bioflavinoids and C Complete are 2 of my vitamin C supplements that would be good to add to your daily regimen of skin health.
  6. Water, water, water. This is one of the most important and simplest things we can do for our skin.  Water is a very important substance in our body for detoxing and will keep your skin, kidneys, and bowels healthy.  Drink 1/3 to 1/2 of your body weight in ounces of water and add some electrolytes to your water to keep you hydrated.  The best electrolyte is salt!
  7. Topical lotions and creams. I usually tell patients to not put anything on your skin in large amounts that you wouldn’t eat.  Sometimes we need a little hydrocortisone cream on a rash or a small amount antibiotic cream on our skin and that is fine when it’s used in small amounts and for a short time.  Coconut oil and Olive oil are great to put on the skin.  Cocoa Butter is a very nice ingredient to use as well.  Quite often olive oil is infused with calendula, plantain, chickweed, lavender, and yarrow and Beeswax in a skin salve to help with cuts and skin irritations.  These kinds of things can be used daily on your skin.

I hope these tips and supplements will help keep your skin young, supple and healthy well into your later years of life.  I wish you well and have a great day!
